Rutgers selected by the Airforce to build a CubeSat

Rutgers has been selected to design, fabricate and test a small satellite in the upcoming 2 years!  This is part of the Air Force Research Laboratory’s University Nanosatellite Program (UNP) which aims to promote and sustain university research and education focused on small satellites and related technologies.

This nanosatellite is named SPICEsat, the Sloshing Platform for In-Orbit Controller Experimentation. It is a 3U CubeSat that will demonstrate novel technology to mitigate liquid propellant sloshing in microgravity. This nanosatellite will be designed by Prof. Burlion’s laboratory and the Space Technology Association of Rutgers (STAR).

SPICEsat will serve as an opportunity to inspire students to pursue STEM, and specifically space engineering, in their future career paths coming out of Rutgers. Finally, SPICEsat will not only be the second New Jersey CubeSat but also the first one developed from scratch at Rutgers, by a Rutgers students association.  More details can be found here.
