MAE undergraduates, Catherine Nachtigal and Darrel Dsouza, both members of Professor Singer's Hybrid Micro/Nanomanufacturing Laboratory, have each been awarded the 2020 Academic Year New Jersey Space Grant Consortium Fellowship. Catherine will investigate differing methylcellulose morphologies after deposition via self-limiting electrospray and Darrel will be working on electrohydrodynamic oscillators for waste heat harvesting using pyroelectric material.

MAE UG students in RU3D, including Hari Vijayakumar and Brandan Dowling, participated in the Self-eSTEAMfest (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) community event at McKinley Community School in New Brunswick on September 28th. The goals of Self-eSTEAMfest was to connect the subjects the students are studying such as coding and mathematics and connect them with real-world careers. Hundreds of elementary students and their family from across the district attended the event.

Professor Yogesh Jaluria delivered two invited Plenary talks at international conferences this summer. The first one was the 4th AIGE/IIETA International Conference and 13th AIGE 2019 Conference on Energy Conversion, Management, Recovery, Saving, Storage and Renewable Systems, organized under the joint auspices of AIGE (Italian Association of Energy Management) and IIETA (International Information Technology and Engineering Association) in Matera, Italy, during June 12-14, 2019. Matera was chosen since it has been designated as the cultural capital of Europe for 2019.

Prof. Xiaoli Bai’s proposal titled “A Holistic Bayesian Framework for Intelligent Calibration of Constellations of Sensors” has been selected by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for the Early Career Faculty Program within the Space Technology Mission Directorate (Space Technology–Research, Development, Demonstration, and Infusion 2019). Through the Early Career Faculty (ECF) solicitation, NASA’s Space Technology Research Grants program awards grants to accredited U.S. universities on behalf of outstanding faculty researchers early in their careers.

Yuebin Guo Elected to the Academy of Fellows of the International Academy for Production Engineering
Yuebin Guo, Henry Rutgers Professor of Advanced Manufacturing, has been named a fellow of the Collège International pour la Recherché en Productique (CIRP), the world’s leading organization in manufacturing-related research. Election to CIRP Fellow represents the highest recognition of a scientist in the field of manufacturing engineering.

Prof. James Guo has recently delivered a Plenary Lecture in the 5th International Workshop on Heat-Mass Transfer Advances for Energy Conservation and Pollution Control. The workshop was held in Novosibirsk, Russia, August 13-16, 2019. It has attracted nearly 200 participants and included 181 oral presentations and 86 poster presentations. Russian Academy of Sciences member Dr. S.V. Alekseenko (one of the workshop chairs) presided Prof. Guo's lecture and awarded Dr. Guo a certificate of appreciation.

Katie Welch, a senior in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department, has been accepted into the Brooke Owens Fellowship Program. The program, founded in memory of Dawn Brooke Owens, aims to empower women interested in the aerospace community through competitive internship opportunities and executive mentorship. During the summer she will be interning at Astranis Space Technologies in San Francisco. Her advisor is Prof. Doyle Knight.
